My take of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie

Grogu

I watched The Mandalorian and Grogu during the opening weekend.

This movie lived up to my expectations.

The relationship between Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Din Grogu (his adopted son) had a chance to grow. They provided a satisfying arc for both these characters, which always makes for a memorable story. And it left me with a feeling of joy, which watching this series always did.

The movie doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger. Yay. And, yet, it still made me want more. As all stories we love do.

As in the series, they also gave us new characters to fall in love with:

- Rotta the Hutt (voice: Jeremy Allen White) won me over by the end.

- Hugo Durant, "the amiable Ardennian cook operating out of a small repulsorlift food stand" (voiced by Martin Scorsese) stole my heart.

- the four Anzellans were a hoot.

The only downside, if there is one, might be that they didn't give Sigourney Weaver (playing Colonel Ward) enough of a role/arc. She's such a wonderful actor, I think they could have had more fun with her.

Still, this is a great movie, which leaves you with a feel-good mood. So rare in these trying times. I'm looking forward to seeing it again on TV with the subtitles on, so I don't miss a word.

Jon Favreau, the series creator, is a consummate storyteller and is fast becoming my writer hero.

This movie reminded me of how much I adored the series and I'm now re-watching the entire 3 seasons from start to end. Along with the Boba Fett series, also created by Jon Favreau, which includes 3 episodes at the end that explains what happened to bring about the astonishing change at the start of Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

"This is the Way!"
